What is lumbalgia and how to recognize symptoms

D.C., Chiropractor, Cary H. Rothenberg. Professional license 15265498.

Lumbalgia means pain in the lumbar region. Evaluation reviews symptoms, exam, and studies if you bring them. Plan set in evaluation; no promise of results from the first session.

What to know

Lumbalgia is more common than many people expect. It can feel like stiffness, ache, or sharp pain in the low back. Sometimes symptoms run into the buttock or leg.

When to book evaluation

  • Pain or stiffness that limits work, sleep, or daily activity.
  • Symptoms into the buttock or leg, or numbness.
  • Episodes that do not improve with brief rest.
  • Recent imaging you want reviewed in the visit.

Do not book here for loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the genital or anal area, leg weakness that is getting worse, or pain after a major injury. That is an emergency.
